ToggleHello, my name is Abdelmoumen ATMANI.
I was born in Algeria, where I studied computer science. I earned a Master 1 in Big Data Analytics at the University of Science and Technology in Algiers. My passion for science and discovering the world motivated me to embark on a new adventure and pursue my studies in France.
I joined Paris Cité University for a Master’s degree in Data: Algorithms, Processing, and Analysis, for a two-years program.
Currently, I am a Data Scientist Intern at Datategy.

Can you tell us about your role at the Datategy, and what kind of projects or initiatives you have been working on during your internship?
During my internship, I started with a training program offered by papAI Academy. This program introduced me to data science concepts and allowed me to explore the powerful papAI platform and its capabilities.
Then, I joined the Machine Learning (ML) team, where my main tasks focused on improving the interpretability modules, particularly Partial Dependence Plot and Feature Importance. I refactored all the relevant classes while integrating the latest scikit-learn functions, ensuring modularity and maintainability. Additionally, I implemented unit tests for each function to guarantee robustness.
Beyond this core task, I also contributed to quality assurance, testing the platform, identifying issues, and providing valuable feedback to the front-end team with suggestions to enhance visibility and clarity.
How have the Datategy teams help you to develop your skills and competencies in the data industry, and what have you learned during your time in the program?
The Datategy team was always by my side, answering all my questions with valuable explanations and advice. I want to take this opportunity to thank them for their time and efforts.
During this internship, I learned a lot about ML pipelines, how to interpret model results, Git and its use in a team environment, advanced scikit-learn functionalities, and best practices for structuring code to maintain a clean and efficient project.
What kind of mentorship and support have you received during your internship, and how has this helped you to navigate your first professional experience?
His mentorship played a crucial role in my professional growth, helping me understand how to structure clean and efficient code, use Git in a team environment, and improve model interpretability.
How has the Datategy Early Careers Program fostered a sense of initiative and team spirit among its participants, and what values do you think are important for success in the data industry?
The program provides a collaborative environment where team members openly share knowledge, exchange feedback, and support each other’s growth. Through regular discussions, peer reviews, and mentorship, I gained the confidence to propose solutions, refine my problem-solving skills, and work effectively within a team.
To succeed in the data industry, I believe it is essential to have Curiosity, Continuous Learning, Collaboration, Adaptability, and Critical Thinking.
Can you share any challenges or obstacles that you have faced during your internship, and how you have overcome them with the support of Datategy teams?
During my task to improve the computation of partial dependence, I faced a challenge in handling NLP features. I had many discussions with my mentor about this, and we concluded to create a specific function for these features and compute their partial dependence separately to other categorical and numerical features.
How has the Datategy supported diversity and inclusion among its participants, and what impact has this had on your experience in the program?
That is one of the best things in Datategy. When you see young engineers coming from all corners of the world, bringing different cultures, life perspectives, and ways of thinking, it’s amazing. Despite these differences, everyone works together in a spirit of mutual respect. This diversity has greatly enriched my experience in this program.
What do you hope to achieve during your time at the Datategy, and how do you see this experience helping you to achieve your long-term career goals in the data industry?
What advice would you give to other young graduates or students who are interested in applying for the Datategy Early Careers Program, and how can they make the most of this opportunity to develop their skills and launch their careers in the data industry?
